The Engineering Education Ph.D. program at University at Buffalo will host an Open House for prospective Ph.D. students on October 1, 2022. Participants are invited to attend on-campus (in- person) or virtually. The open house will provide an introduction to our program, our faculty, our research, and our current graduate students. Attendees will be able to talk to faculty and graduate students.

Registration is required for this event. Please go to this page to register. Further information about the PhD program in UB’s DEE department can be found on the department’s website.

If you have any questions, please contact Adrienne Decker, Associate Professor and Director of Graduate Studies at adrienne@buffalo.edu.

Florida International University, School of Universal Computing, Construction, and Engineering Education Open House

Join FIU’s School of Universal Computing, Construction, and Engineering Education (SUCCEED) for our annual Fall open house on October 13th (virtual) or 14th (in person)  to learn more about how a Ph.D. in Engineering and Computing Education can be a right fit for you!

The Fall open house is a great opportunity to chat with current graduate students and faculty and learn about how the first engineering and computing education program at a minority-serving institution is addressing critical needs and opportunities facing engineering and computing education, especially in equity, diversity, and inclusion.

This year’s open house will be held both virtually and in person. Both versions of the open house give attendees the chance to meet with faculty, graduate students, and learn more about all aspects of the program (e.g., admissions, curriculum, program requirements, community).

Please click here to visit our website for more information about the Ph.D. program, and be sure to explore the faculty profiles and current research projects to see a sample of the variety of research directions pursued by the School. I’ve also included a brochure that offers an overview of the program and more information about our faculty and their research.

To learn more or RSVP please complete this survey. You can also contact us at eced-gpd@fiu.edu

Virginia Tech Engineering Education Ph.D. Program - Fall 2022 Open House

The Engineering Education Ph.D. program at Virginia Tech will host an Open House for prospective Ph.D. students on October 20-21, 2022. Participants are invited to attend On-Campus (in-person) or virtually. Both the On-Campus Open House and the Virtual Open House will feature an introduction to our program, a seminar given by leaders in the engineering education field, and a chance to talk with faculty and current graduate students. Attendees will learn more about our Ph.D. program and welcoming community.

A limited number of travel grants (for travel within the US) are available to attend the On-Campus Open House. Information about the travel grants and registration links are available on our Open House webpage.

We strongly encourage people who are interested in a Ph.D. program that is balanced between research and real-world application to apply. Visit the Virginia Tech Engineering Education website to learn more about our Ph.D. program.

We hope you give Virginia Tech serious consideration as you explore Ph.D. programs! If you have any questions, please contact Mara Knott, Academic Program Manager, at knott@vt.edu.

University of Michigan Engineering Education Research: Prospective Student Open House (HYBRID)

We are excited to invite all interested students to attend an open house to learn about the UM’s graduate program in Engineering Education Research (EER). UM’s EER program represents a unique, interdisciplinary model: EER Ph.D. students (who enjoy a full funding package) are part of a college-wide program, while several tenure-line EER faculty are embedded within the traditional engineering departments. The integrated nature of the program allows the EER faculty and their research groups to be well-integrated with the traditional engineering disciplines, and it provides students a better opportunity to engage in innovative research and make scholarly contributions to the engineering education community. More information about the program is available at our EER website (https://eer.engin.umich.edu/). We will be hosting a Hybrid Open House on Thursday and Friday, 11/03/22 and 11/04/22. Students from all institutions are invited to attend, whether in-person or by Zoom (a zoom link will be emailed prior to the program). Participants will hear about the EER graduate program, meet faculty and graduate students, tour the beautiful University of Michigan campus, and learn about career opportunities as an UM graduate in this field. For participants who travel within the U.S., a limited number of travel grants are available to offset the costs of traveling to Ann Arbor, so please register soon. Note that we highly encourage applicants to the EER graduate program to have Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in a traditional engineering discipline. Please register to attend at this open house registration site (tinyurl.com/2022EERUM) and please forward this link to any friends who may be interested. Email us for more information at eerprogram@umich.edu

JEE Mentored Reviewer Program

The Journal of Engineering Education (JEE) is committed to cultivate, disseminate, and archive scholarly research in engineering education.  To expand our reviewer base and maintain the quality of manuscript reviews, JEE launched a Mentored Reviewer Program in 2019. This program is intended to coach new or novice reviewers through the review process with mentor who has substantial experience in reviewing and writing engineering education research studies. We are inviting applications for mentees to the JEE Mentored Reviewer Program. Mentees for the program should be novices in engineering education research such as graduate students, post-doctoral scholars, and engineering faculty.  Mentees should display evidence of developing expertise (through formal courses or real-world experiences) in research areas that align with the journal’s mission. Mentees should have developing expertise in either quantitative or qualitative research methods. Individuals from countries other than the United States are welcome and encouraged to apply.

The Mentored Reviewer Program is a competitive program for both mentors and mentees. All mentors and mentees will be acknowledged at the ASEE annual meeting and will receive a certificate recognizing their accomplishments through their participation in the program during the previous year. Mentees will be asked to participate in an online training with their mentors and JEE editors that will include an introduction to JEE and an overview of expectations for reviews. During the mentorship period (approximately 3 - 6 months), mentors and mentees will work together on approximately three article reviews. A scaffolded approach to the review process allows each mentee to gain more independence by their final review. To the extent possible, mentors and mentees will be matched based on expertise. For more information on the program, please contact Lisa Benson at lbenson@clemson.edu, or visit the program website, which also includes resources for reviewers: https://sites.google.com/view/jee-mentored-reviewers/mentored-reviewer-program

The application for mentees is available at: https://tinyurl.com/JEEMentoredReviewMenteeF21 . Applications are due by August 20, 2021.
