The University of Michigan has just launched a brand new graduate program in Engineering Education Research (EER). As you might know, EER is an emerging field in which scholars use methods from education and social sciences to study issues relevant in engineering education such as supporting faculty as they adopt more student-centered teaching approaches, using classroom technology to improve students' understanding of foundational engineering concepts, or comparing the approaches used by expert and novice designers as they solve engineering problems. The University of Michigan's EER program represents a unique, interdisciplinary model. Several tenure-line EER faculty are embedded within the traditional engineering departments, while EER graduate students are part of a college-wide program. This allows the EER faculty and their research to be well-integrated with the traditional engineering disciplines, and it provides students a better opportunity to engage in innovative research and make scholarly contributions to the engineering education community. An EER graduate degree will provide students with career opportunities in academia, nonprofit organizations, and industry. An EER Prospective Student Open House will be hosted on Monday October 22, 2018, from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm in Ann Arbor, MI. Students from all institutions are invited to attend. Participants will meet with faculty, postdocs, and graduate students, tour the beautiful University of Michigan campus and EER lab spaces, and learn about career opportunities as a UM graduate in this field. Note that applicants to the EER graduate program must have Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in a traditional engineering discipline.

Purdue University’s School of Engineering Education, informally known as ENE, created the world’s first engineering education doctoral program in 2004. Our program is about conducting fundamental research on engineering learning and bridging research and practice. PITT Future Faculty Development Program (PITT-FFDP, Oct. 25–27) is an expense-paid two-day program for doctoral and post-doctoral scholars from traditionally underrepresented groups (URG) in their STEM research fields, and who are interested in an academic career. The program is designed to identify the scholars toward the end of their doctorate or post-doctorate programs but early in their beginning search for faculty career in the STEM field.
The Engineering Education PhD graduate program at Virginia Tech seeks to prepare students for successful careers in research, academia, and industry by offering a program that is balanced between rigorous research and real world application.
We are hosting our annual Fall Open House for prospective PhD students November 8th and 9th, 2018. to help you gather information about our program. Open House attendees will have the opportunity to learn about our program and the faculty and students who make up our close community. The Open House will include current faculty research presentations, a poster session on current student research, and a seminar given by a leader in the engineering education field. Visitors will also have the chance to meet with faculty to discuss personal research interests and to participate in a relaxed discussion with our current graduate students. Please save the date for a National Science Foundation-funded summit, Scalable Advanced Learning Ecosystems (SALE), to be hosted at The Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta on November 29-30, 2018.
This event will bring together leaders in higher education and educational technology from across the globe to brainstorm and strategize creating cost-effective, sustainable, and scalable educational environments, or, SALE -- Scalable Advanced Learning Ecosystems.
This two-day summit will be hosted at the Global Learning Center (GLC) on Georgia Tech’s campus and will feature several invited speakers, who will facilitate conversations on personalized learning systems, intelligent tutoring systems, immersive learning environments, and data mining and learning analytics. The goal will be to craft a collective vision for institutions to combine these technologies with considerations for student engagement, research, and business models that that make up SALEs.
