Breaking the Boundaries of STEM Education Conference

April 7th from 9 am - 8 pm at Loyola Marymount University

This conference will be a great venue at which STEM faculty can:

  • learn about new scholarly work related to equity, problem-solving and computational thinking in STEM,
  • be inspired to change teaching practice in some way,
  • share results of their own STEM education research,
  • initiate a project in which one examines one's own class, and
  • find potential future collaborators.

This conference is perfect for those who are already engaged in the scholarship of teaching and learning as well as those who are simply looking for some results of such scholarship that they can apply to their own classes. For those who are interested in applying for NSF funding related to teaching and learning, there will be several current and former NSF program officers and division directors in attendance. They will be presenting and talking with conference attendees throughout the day.

Visit the website for the complete program, registration form and poster submission form.

Please share this information and invite all of your STEM colleagues at other local institutions.  We want to have a large multi-discipline and multi-institution crowd.

Workshop on Reflection in Engineering Education

The Consortium to Promote Reflection in Engineering Education (CPREE) and the Center for Engineering Learning and Teaching (CELT) are hosting a workshop on the use of reflection in engineering education. The workshop will take place in Seattle, September 14-15, 2017.

Space in this workshop is limited, so we are asking interested participants to submit a one-page statement of interest including the following information:

1.  Your name and affiliation
2.  Your experience with engineering education
3.  One or more questions you have about reflection
4.  What knowledge, experience, or insights you can bring to the workshop and share with the community
5.  What you hope to get out of the workshop

If you are selected to participate in the workshop, you will be asked to submit an abstract by August 15, and bring a poster or handout to that meeting that describes either 1) work you have already done; OR 2) your ideas, questions, etc. about reflection, with the goal of sparking conversations.
Please submit applications Lesley Pfeifer at leslep@uw.edu by 5pm on March 15, 2017.  Acceptance notifications will be sent out on March 31, 2017.
