ASEE Engineering Education Research and Innovation (EER&I) Networking

June 15–17, 2014, ASEE, Indianapolis, IN

Dear EER&I Colleagues,

Thanks to folks who participated in previous Engineering Education Research & Innovation Networking Sessions and welcome to new participants!

We are organizing the EER&I networking session at the 2014 American Society for Engineering Education Conference in Indianapolis, IN and invite you to participate. This year we are changing the format in a way that we hope will foster even more networking opportunities.

Purdue has provided an Engineering Education Research (EER) Lounge in the Exhibit Hall (Exhibit # 1218). This “meeting place” is located in the midst of the cluster of booths by schools and NSF related to engineering education research and innovation. Slides you provide on your program will be on continuous rotation in the EER Lounge. We encourage you to gather there especially during the times when there is a focus on exhibits built into the official ASEE Conference program. These times include Sunday June 15, 6:00-7:30pm, Monday, June 16, 10:30-12:00 and 3:45-4:15; and Tuesday, June 17, 2014, 12:30-2:00 pm. Please join us. To help with networking each person who is part of an EER, EEI, STEM education research center, program, etc. will be given a label (sticker, ribbon, etc) to identify them as a member of the community.

Our principal aim is to provide an opportunity for colleagues with established engineering education research & innovation programs to network with one another, and to provide guidance to colleagues who are considering establishing engineering education research centers and PhD programs. If you would like to include or update (if you had a slide last year) your program listing, we ask you to prepare a one-slide description of your engineering education research and/or graduate program to share. As in the past we will display the programs via a rolling slide show and post the presentation materials to our Collaboratory of Engineering Education Research (CLEERhub.org) as well as to Karl's website (http://www.ce.umn.edu/~smith/links.html). Please send your brief description (one slide please) to Karl Smith - ksmith@umn.edu

We hope you will be able to join us at ASEE. Please invite folks who have programs or you think would be interested in meeting EER folks. Thanks!

Sincerely,

Karl Smith, Ruth Streveler, Robin Adams & David Radcliffe

Integrating Design and Community Engagement within the Curriculum Workshop

Sponsored by EPICS, EWB-USA, and EFELTS

June 19-20, 2014, immediately following the 2014 ASEE Conference at Purdue University
(65 mi north of Indianapolis-transportation from downtown Indianapolis  provided)

This workshop is an exciting opportunity to learn about integrating community-inspired design and community engagement experiences into your engineering curriculum from experienced facilitators from EWB-USA, the EPICS Program and the Engineering Faculty Engagement in Learning Through Service (EFELTS) project.  In addition, you will interact with other similarly motivated faculty and take practical, constructive steps in developing or refining the design, management, and assessment of community engagement efforts. Although we will explore the broader Learning Through Service experiences in engineering, the focus of this workshop is on equipping participants to integrate their vision of community engagement into the curriculum within their institution's context in a way that provides measurable benefit to all stakeholders.

Limited space available. Registrations accepted up to Monday, May 19, 2014 or when spaces are filled. Registration details and more information about this event at http://www.conf.purdue.edu/landing_pages/epicsdesign/

For more information please contact Maeve Drummond, EPICS University Coordinator, at maeve@purdue.edu

PEER Collaborative peer mentoring workshop and unconference

June 18–19 2014, Purdue University

Are you a junior faculty member, recently tenured faculty member or research staff person who is primarily evaluated on their engineering education research?  We have a small but growing community of people in a similar situation who peer mentor each other in engineering education research matters, and we are having our annual workshop after ASEE 2014.  The workshop will be at Purdue University (near Indy), with free registration, for 20–30 people.

Visit our website http://bit.ly/PEERCollaborative for more information and to register.
