Meet Faculty in the Field of Engineering Education: Virtual Community Meetup

When: Wednesday November 4th from 2:30-4:00pm MST / 4:30-6:00pm EST

For more info and registration details: tinyurl.com/EngEdMeetup

New to the engineering education community? Have questions about research, careers, or the field? Back for its third year, and now virtual, this event provides an opportunity to interact with 14 exemplar faculty in Engineering Education. Session attendees will have the opportunity to meet with these faculty in small interactive breakout sessions, to ask questions and seek advice. Students, postdocs, faculty, and researchers are invited. Newcomers to engineering education are especially welcome!

This event is inspired by the Engineering Education Pioneers Project (NSF Grant # 1263512) and offered in affiliation with the ASEE Education & Research Methods (ERM) and Student Divisions. For questions, please contact Drs. Sam Brunhaver (sbrunhav@asu.edu) and Adam Carberry (acarberr@asu.edu)

Clemson ESED Department Online INformation Session, Nov. 9, 5-6:30 p.m. EST

The Clemson University Department of Engineering and Science Education (ESED) will be hosting an online information session for prospective Ph.D. students on Monday, November 9, 2020, from 5:00 to 6:30 pm (EST). Situated in Clemson’s College of Engineering, Computing and Applied Sciences (CECAS), ESED is a nationally renowned, unique program as it networks scholars in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) education research areas. The ESED Ph.D. program provides a rich curriculum integrating STEM education with social science and education research methods. The ESED Ph.D. program is designed for students who are content specialists in a STEM discipline who seek to pursue discipline-based education research; applicants must have a Bachelor’s and/or Master’s degree in a STEM discipline. More information about the ESED program is available at our website: https://www.clemson.edu/cecas/departments/ese/

The ESED Online Information Session provides opportunities to meet with faculty and graduate students, learn about the program and its culture of collaboration, and discuss career opportunities as a Clemson ESED graduate.

Register to attend here: https://bit.ly/2HzwwZt . After registering, you will receive an email with information about how to join the meeting.

For more information, contact Student Services Coordinator Barbara Smith at barbar2@clemson.edu

Can't make it to the open house but interested in applying? Visit the ESED Ph.D. program website to learn more. We hope you will consider Clemson University as you decide to pursue your graduate studies in STEM education research!

University of Michigan Ph.D. and M.S. Programs Engineering Education Research Prospective Student Open House

We are excited to invite all interested students to attend an open house to learn about the UM's graduate program in Engineering Education Research (EER). UM's EER program represents a unique, interdisciplinary model: several tenure-line EER faculty are embedded within the traditional engineering departments, while EER graduate students are part of a college-wide program. This allows the EER faculty and their research to be well-integrated with the traditional engineering disciplines, and it provides students a better opportunity to engage in innovative research and make scholarly contributions to the engineering education community. An EER graduate degree will provide students with career opportunities in academia, nonprofit organizations, and industry. More information about the program is available at our EER website (https://eer.engin.umich.edu/).

We will be hosting a Virtual EER Prospective Student Open House on Thursday and Friday, 10/08/20 and 10/09/20 via Zoom (zoom link will be emailed prior to the meeting). Students from all institutions are invited to attend. Participants will hear about the program, meet faculty and graduate students, tour (virtually) the beautiful University of Michigan campus, and learn about career opportunities as a UM graduate in this field. Note that applicants to the EER graduate program must have Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in a traditional engineering discipline.

Please register to attend at this open house registration site (https://umich.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_6o3uvit5UsOu52R), and please forward this link to any friends who may be interested. Email us for more information at eerprogram@umich.edu.

Can't make it to the open house but are interested in applying? Visit the EER website (https://eer.engin.umich.edu/to learn more about the graduate program. We hope you will consider UM as you decide to pursue your graduate studies in engineering education.

Purdue Diversity and Inclusion - Pursing Racial Justice Together Series

AT PURDUE, WE ARE ALWAYS LEARNING. And with life or death matters of racial justice, we know we have work to do. We know the work is complicated. Heavy. Uncomfortable. Let’s do it anyway. The demand for action and accountability has never been stronger. Black lives — and all those who receive less than the justice and equity that each human deserves — are depending on it.

So now it’s time to educate ourselves and examine our own beliefs and behaviors. It’s time to hear each other and be heard.

It’s time to pursue racial justice. Together. Through this series of distinguished guests, we’ll tackle the hard questions and identify the work that comes with it. We will seek to raise the consciousness of issues related to race, racism and systemic inequities, presenting our campus community with real actions each of us can take in the fight for racial equality and justice. This series isn’t for checking action boxes until the next hashtag trends. This time, we have a bigger goal: we want to listen to those who have identified best steps toward true change, and then take them. Join these virtual learning sessions, engage in the discussion, read the associated books and journey with us on this path together.

More speakers will be announced during the year. Watch for updates at www.purdue.edu/diversity-inclusion/racial-justice-series and on social media.

University of Michigan Virtual Engineering Education Research Seminars

The University of Michigan Engineering Education Research Program is excited to be able to invite you to our 2020-2021 EER Seminar Series. Building on anti-racist momentum from the summer, we've decided to use our EER seminar platform to both amplify the work of Black and other minoritzied scholars and to showcase research about the experiences of minoritized engineering students and/or engineers. Because of COVID uncertainty, we've planned for all of the seminars (through spring 2021) to take place virtually, via Zoom.

We have an incredible lineup (see below)! The seminars are all scheduled for Wednesdays, at 3:30 - 4:30pm EST, and most events are open to the interested public (though you must register to attend). More information, as well as registration details, will be available on https://eer.engin.umich.edu/events-seminars/  a few weeks before each talk, and you may sign up to receive email reminders and registration links for the seminars using this interest form:  (https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLScVyS9joC9iHcoVLtvWuo939wn1ekHlVhBHZgBmVdIhpQ7TRA/viewform).
